Utah Symphony and Utah Opera announced Wednesday that performances will be suspended through the end of May due to Utah’s increased COVID-19 precautions.
What’s happening:
- Utah Symphony and Utah Opera announced shows will be postponed through May 23.
- The announcement came after Salt Lake County Arts and Culture announced performing arts venues will be closed until May 15.
- USUO said it is “working closely with local government officials and the health department to determine when it is safe to resume performances.”
What’s being said:
- Patricia A. Richards, interim president and CEO of Utah Symphony, Utah Opera: “We are deeply saddened to cancel live symphony and opera performances but want to assure everyone that this cancellation is temporary and we will be back. We hope to resume performing this summer with free community concerts, the Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City, and certainly later this fall. As stewards of the arts, Utah Symphony, Utah Opera places priority on the safety and well-being of everyone in our community. We are heartbroken to cancel live performances, and continue to harness the incredible healing power of music to connect communities across Utah.”
