“Today” show co-anchor Hoda Kotb was honored by fans across social media after almost breaking down on the show Friday.
What happened:
- Kotb nearly broke down in tears Friday morning during the live broadcast. She’s currently the only anchor on the show, working remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
- She talked about New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees’ donation of $5 million to fight the novel coronavirus in Louisiana, and it immediately hit hard for her.
- Brees called into the show to talk about his donation on the state, according to People magazine.
- Brees said: “The state of Louisiana thrives on small businesses. We’re a hospitality state, and so many people have been affected by this around the country but especially in New Orleans. So when Brittany and I think about one of New Orleans’ (residents’) basic needs, that is to make sure that they and their family are fed and they can continue to sustain. So that’s where we wanted to start.”
How Hoda reacted
- She nearly choked up as they moved onto the next segment of the show.
- She said: “I also think a lot of things are contagious, including generosity. So our hope is that because you let us know you made this big, generous donation, and I think other people look and think, ‘Hey, maybe I can help out, too.”
