Popular ongoing comic book series “Justice League Dark” is set to finally be adapted for screen under the guidance of experience director J.J. Abrams and his wife Katie McGrath, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

While details about the new HBO Max series haven’t been released yet, Variety reports it will feature many of DC’s “Justice League Dark” team, including John Constantine — who has previously been portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film “Constantine” — Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Doctor Mist, Zatanna, Etrigan, Swamp Thing and others.

The “Justice League Dark” comic series focuses on the more supernatural characters in the DC Universe, rather than simply the traditional superhero characters, the Verge reports.

Abrams isn’t the first to try to adapt the DC comics series for the screen. Polygon reports that Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro wrote an entire script for a “Justice League Dark” movie in 2012, but the film was scrapped in 2013.

HBO Max says more details will be released soon, but confirmed to IGN that the universe of “Justice League Dark” is set to be the basis for a “major series.”

In addition to “Justice League Dark,” the New York Post reports that Abrams will be adapting Stephen King’s “The Shining” into a series called “Overlook,” and creating an original drama “Duster” for HBO Max.
