A new image of concept art for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” shows Rey wearing Kylo Ren’s mask, hinting that the original plans for Rey may have been a lot deeper than what ended up happening.

What’s the news:

  • “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” concept artist Adam Brockbank posted a photo of Dark Rey wearing the same helmet that Kylo Ren owned.
  • Rey’s eyes burn a Sith-colored yellow with red shading on the sides. She appears unquestionably evil in the photo.

Brockbank has two other photos on his feed that show off a darker version of Rey. Each of these images were conceived during preproduction of “Rise of Skywalker.”

Dark Rey first appeared in a brief “Rise of Skywalker” teaser. She appeared at the end of the teaser, whipping out her double-bladed lightsaber.

Her role in the actual film was just about as short. She briefly appeared in flashes, showing who Rey could become. Reports from over the last few months have indicated that JJ Abrams and the film crew may have had a bigger role for Rey but it didn’t come to pass.
