SALT LAKE CITY — Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres will now accept reservations for Private Family Movies, the company announced Wednesday.

Private Family Movies — available at select locations — offers the use of a Megaplex Theatre auditorium for up to 20 family members to watch a classic or recent Hollywood film.

Megaplex popcorn and Coca-Cola products will be available, according to the company. Families will receive 20 buckets of popcorn and 20 large sodas, with no refills allowed.

“We’re thrilled to be taking the next step towards the return of the Megaplex experience with safe and responsible reopening procedures following several weeks of ‘Intermission,’” said Blake Andersen, Megaplex Theatres president. “The Megaplex team is excited to open our doors for small groups of guests to start enjoying Utah’s favorite entertainment experience again.”

The offer costs $375.

Private Family Movies is available at the Megaplex Threatre locations at The District in South Jordan, Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Legacy Crossing in Centerville and Pineview in St. George.

Seats and surfaces will be cleaned and sanitized before each experience.

Anderson, the president of Megaplex Theatres, told the Deseret News that the coronavirus outbreak has forced massive change to the movie theater industry. Megaplex has updated its app and sold curbside popcorn to accommodate for the screen closures.

Anderson said he looks forward to the summer blockbuster season. But he admitted some caution.

“Movies can be so relaxing and an escape. We want people to come back and feel that escape. I think people need that now,” he told the Deseret News. “But we’ve still got to provide a safe environment for that to happen.”
