Disney announced Wednesday Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, will reopen in July, and those dates may offer clues as to when Disneyland will reopen.
What’s the news:
- Disney World has proposed reopening the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11. Epcot and Hollywood Studios would reopen on July 15, as I reported for the Deseret News.
- A reopened Disney World will include temperature checks, physical distancing, added cleaning measures and limited contact.
- This would be the first Disney theme park to reopen on U.S. soil amid the coronavirus pandemic. Disneyland is expected to announce its plans soon.
When will Disneyland reopen?
According to The Orange County Register, Disney World’s decision to reopen may offer a clue for how Disneyland may choose to open its gates.
- Shanghai Disneyland remained closed for 107 days after it shut down amid the coronavrius pandemic, reopening on May 11. Disney World’s Magic Kingdom will have been closed for 117 days when it reopens on July 11. Epcot and Hollywood Studios will have been closed for 121 days when it reopens on July 14.
- Let’s apply those numbers to Disneyland, which closed on March 14.
- A 107-day closure would mean Disneyland and California Adventure Park could reopen on June 29.
- A 117-day closure would mean the parks open on July 9.
- A 121-day closure means Disneyland reopens on July 13.
More reopenings already
That said, Disney has already reopened the Disney Springs mall at Walt Disney World. Disney-owned stores waited for a little longer as third-party stores opened first, as I reported for the Deseret News.
