Disney Plus has more than 54.5 million viewers as of Monday, Disney announced Tuesday.
The announcement comes almost six months after Disney Plus debuted in November 2019.
At the beginning of April, Disney Plus announced it had more than 50 million subscribers for its platform. The service is available in 12 countries across the world.
“We’re truly humbled that Disney Plus is resonating with millions around the globe, and believe this bodes well for our continued expansion throughout Western Europe and into Japan and all of Latin America later this year,” said Kevin Mayer, chairman of Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International. “Great storytelling inspires and uplifts, and we are in the fortunate position of being able to deliver a vast array of great entertainment rooted in joy and optimism on Disney Plus.”
Disney Plus launched in the U.S. back in November 2019. It has since launched in U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Switzerland within the last month. Disney Plus also became available in India, too.
Disney revealed Tuesday that it lost about $1 billion because of park closures during the COVID-19 outbreak, according to my report for the Deseret News. Analysts suggest the park could lose $21 billion through 2022.
