Married celebrity couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have donated $200,000 to the NAACP in response to the recent protests against police brutality and racial injustice.

What’s going on:

Reynolds and Lively posted on their Instagram accounts that they donated $200,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

The couple wrote: “We’ve never had to worry about preparing our kids for different rules of law or what might happen if we’re pulled over in the car.”

“We don’t know what it’s like to experience that life day in and day out. We can’t imagine feeling that kind of fear and anger. We’re ashamed that in the past we’ve allowed ourselves to be uninformed about how deeply rooted systemic racism is.”

The couple said they “want to educate ourselves about other people’s experiences and talk to our kids about everything, all of it, especially our own complicity.”

More celebrities talk about the protests

Other celebrities have responded to the protests on social media. Chrissy Teigen, for example, announced that she would donate $200,000 to help protesters post bail amid the protests, according to my report for the Deseret News.

Jay-Z wrote in an Instagram post that more help was needed to solve injustice and the George Floyd case, as I reported for the Deseret News.

  • He wrote: “After our very earnest conversation, thank you to Gov. Walz for doing what’s right and calling in Attorney General Keith Ellison to take over the George Floyd case. Earlier today, Gov. Walz mentioned having a human conversation with me — a dad and a black man in pain. Yet, I am a human, a father and a black man in pain, and I am not the only one.”
  • “Now I, along with an entire country in pain, call upon AG Ellison to do the right thing and prosecute all those responsible for the murder of George Floyd to the fullest extent of the law.”
