There’s some new speculation about the cost of the PlayStation 5, which is still due to be released in the holiday 2020 season.
What’s going on:
- A new listing for the Sony video game console on Amazon UK showed the price to hover around £599.99 ($765.32) for 2 terabytes of data, according to ComicBook.com.
- The listing was already taken down. But people snapped screenshots of the order before it disappeared from the website.
- HotUKDeals.com shared the listing as well. People pointed out on that website that the listing was fake and only a placeholder.
- “It’s got the PlayStation 5 listed under Sony’s items for £599.99, and someone was even able to put in an order even though that purchase will likely get canceled,” per ComicBook.com.
A rumor from March
- In March, a new leak from Canadian retailer Play N Trade suggested that the PlayStation 5 could cost close to $600 in Canada — so about $400 in the U.S., as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- The rumor came after the Play N Trade offered preorders for the system at that price.
Upcoming ...
- Sony will host an event for the PlayStation 5 on Thursday, June 11. It will begin at 4 p.m. ET (2 p.m. MT). The company is expected to show off new games for the system, as I reported for the Deseret News.
