“Spencer,” which will begin filming in 2021, will focus on three days of Diana’s life in the early 1990s and explore her decision to end her marriage to Prince Charles, according to Fox News.
The movie will focus not just on her marriage but also on her role as a mother to her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, according to Fox News. It will not cover her tragic death in a car crash in 1997.
“Diana is such a powerful icon, where millions and millions of people, not just women, but many people around the world felt empathy toward her in her life,” said director Pablo Larrain, who was behind 2016’s “Jackie” about Jackie Kennedy, according to People magazine. “We decided to get into a story about identity, and around how a woman decides somehow, not to be the queen.”
Larrain called Stewart “a force of nature,” according to People.
“Kristin is one of the great actors around today,” Larrain said, according to People. “To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristin can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.”
Stewart’s version of Princess Diana will not be the only one coming to the screen. Emma Corrin is set to portray Diana in season four of “The Crown” on Netflix, according to People.
