Pokémon Unite will be the latest Pokémon to take the franchise in a new direction, offering a strategy-based game that’s similar to the popular League of Legends video game.
What’s going on:
- Tencent’s TiMi Studios — developer of Honor of Kings and Call of Duty: Mobile games — is developing the new Pokemon game, which features teams battling each other with Pokemon.
- Teams of five compete against each other.
- People can level up their Pokemon throughout the game while completing tasks.
- The map inside the game “ is even reminiscent of existing team strategy games,” according to The Verge.
- The game can be played for free on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
Pokemon franchise adds more games
- On June 17, the Pokemon company announced the return of the Pokemon Snap franchise with New Pokemon Snap, giving fans a new game where the object is to take photos of Pokemon in the wild, as I reported for the Deseret News.
- The original game dropped for the Nintendo 64 back in 1999 and received a cult-like following.
- The game will allow gamers to “explore beautiful islands,” “discover lively wild Pokemon,” “capture beautiful Pokemon photos” and “make your own Photodex” (a collection of pictures), according to the website.
