Washington Post columnist Alexandra Petri rewrote the lyrics to the famous “Beauty and the Beast” song “Be Our Guest” with a little Disney reopening flavor, a tongue-in-cheek move poking fun at the theme park for reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic.

On July 11, Walt Disney World resort reopened to the public amid the coronavirus pandemic. The park reopened with healthy and safety guidelines, including a new mask requirement.

Disney released a “welcome home” video that showed off some of these changes. Social media later dunked on the video with remixes and memes.

Petri of the Washington Post decided to write new lyrics to “Be Our Guest.” Definitely read it. Some of the best lines:

“Be our guest, be our guest!

“Put our testing to the test!

“Tie your mask around your face, chérie,

“And we provide the rest!

And then there’s this line, which references Disney’s decision to rework one of its most famous rides:

“Come on folks, on you we’re countin’!

“Look, we even fixed Splash Mountain!”

And then there’s this block, which references a few different Disney characters:

“You’re at risk, and you’re scared,

“But think of all the lines you’re spared!

“Villains are the ones like Scar, who tell us we must “Be Prepared.”

“You’ll have fun! You will thrive!

“Even if you don’t survive!

“To lose one parent’s not so tragic when it’s Disney princess magic.

“Get sick? Clap! You’ll get well.”

Petri isn’t the first to rework at “Beauty and the Beast” song for the coronavirus pandemic. Back in March, Sharon Luxenburg and Miri Shavi remade the opening song of Beauty and the Beast” to promote hand washing and social distancing, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.

The lyrics showed Belle starting her day in the village, with her neighbors slamming her for not participating in new health measures.
