Kanye West held his first presidential rally over the weekend, where he shared a conspiracy theory about Harriet Tubman, talked about the size of his brain and implored people to support him for president.

Here’s a breakdown of what he said:

  • On Harriet Tubman: “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people.”
  • West said he and Kim Kardashian considered having an abortion (they currently have four children), according to Insider.
  • West said his father considered having an abortion, too. “There would have been no Kanye West … because my dad was too busy!”
  • He said: “The maximum increase would be everybody that has a baby gets a million dollars or something in that range.”
  • “If you had the opportunity to be given a million dollars, just for being pregnant, would you have considered it? And then everybody would start having children, the greatest gift of life.”
  • West told those in attendance to remain absolutely quiet. He had one person in the crowd ejected. He criticized the crowd for clapping, too, Yahoo Entertainment reports.
  • Videos that surfaced from the event showed people saying things like “Come on, man” and “OK, we’re leaving now” as Kanye continued to ramble,  Yahoo Entertainment reports.

Some context:

  • West spoke in South Carolina after only few days of warning. Those in attendances were asked to wear masks, embrace social distancing and sign a COVID-19 liability form, according to Politico.
  • There were some rumors that West had dropped out of the 2020 race. Advisers said he had dropped out of the race, as I wrote for Deseret.com. Soon after, reports surfaced that West actually had filed paperwork to run for president.

What’s next?

  • Kanye is expected to release a new song — called “New Body” — on Friday. The song was originally supposed to include Nicki Minaj, too.
