One year ago, at the age of 20, Disney star Cameron Boyce tragically passed away. And on Monday, the anniversary of his death, family, friends, and fans have taken to social media to remember the loved actor.
Boyce was known for his roles in multiple Disney shows. He played Luke Ross in the Disney Channel comedy “Jessie” from 2011 to 2015 and Carlos in the three “Descendants” television films.
The star suffered from epilepsy and passed away peacefully in his sleep due to a seizure, according to ABC News.
Boyces’ mother, Libby Boyce, started the Cameron Boyce Foundation last year when her son passed away. She has used this to raise awareness for Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) and others who lost their loved ones, according to Newsweek.
”Here are hundreds of mothers who have lost a child to SUDEP, yet I had never heard of SUDEP even though Cameron was diagnosed with epilepsy at 17 years old. I intend to use my voice on behalf of these moms to bring a face to this tragic issue and to bring attention to epilepsy,” his mother said, according to Newsweek.
Victor Boyce, Boyces’ father, took to Instagram to share a caring photo of the two with the caption, “His memory is a blessing”.
Twitter has been flooded with a number of posts since Monday morning, using the hashtag, #CameronBoyce, paying tribute to the Disney actor.
“Jessie” co-star, Skai Jackson, tweeted, “1 year in Heaven ... times goes by too fast, everyone misses you and loves you! I hope you know and see that.”
