Disneyland Resort plans to reopen the Downtown Disney District amid the coronavirus pandemic, even though the Disneyland resort and theme park will remain closed.

The park will add new health and safety precautions to help stop the spread of the infection as the phased reopening process begins for Disneyland.

Disney will use guidelines presented from federal, state and local government officials, as well as health officials and agencies, like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • Temperature checks will be required when entering the entertainment and shopping district.
  • Anyone with a 100.4 or higher temperature will be turned away.
  • Facial coverings will be required for anyone 2 years old or older.
  • There will be limited capacity.
  • Physical barriers will help keep social distancing, too.

At the end of June, Disneyland announced it would no longer reopen on July 17 as previously planned, as I reported for the Deseret News. The company said California — which has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases — would not issue guidelines and acceptance for the park to reopen.

The park will delay its reopening indefinitely.

“Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials,” the company said. “Once we have a clearer understanding of when guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date.”
