On Thursday, we will see the first impact of Apple and Epic Games’ ongoing legal dispute as Fortnite’s latest season won’t be available for Apple and iPhone gamers.

Apple has banned Epic Games’ Fortnite from the App store after Epic added an in-game payment system different from Apple. Fortnite is no longer available in the App Store, which means people with the game can’t update it for the new season.

Epic Games confirmed the new season won’t be available on Apple devices

“Apple is blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App Store, and has said they will terminate our ability to develop Fortnite for Apple devices. As a result, Fortnite’s newly released Chapter 2 - Season 4 update (v14.00), will not release on iOS and macOS on August 27.

“If you still want to play Fortnite on Android, you can access the latest version of Fortnite from the Epic Games App for Android on Fortnite.com/Android or the Samsung Galaxy Store.”

What this means for Fortnite

  • The popular battle royale game will now split into two different versions, according to The Verge. You have one version on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Android — who all have access to new content — and then those using the iPhone or Apple devices, who will miss out on new content.
  • “And it seems that until something else changes between Epic and Apple, Apple players will continue to be stuck in their own inferior version of Fortnite.”
