Keira Knightley had a rather important role in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” — she just doesn’t remember who she played.

What’s going on?

Knightley recently had an interview with ComingSoon.net, and she couldn’t remember who she played in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”

  • “Your character survived, whereas Padmé did not,” a reporter told her.
  • She said, “Wait a minute. Who did I play? Was I not Padmé?”

Who did Keira Knightley play?

Knightley appeared as one of Padme’s handmaidens — named Sabe. She pretended to be Padme, acting as a decoy throughout the film to keep people from attacking Padme.

How did she respond?

Knightly didn’t know much about her role:

  • “Do you know, I saw the film once. I think I was 12 when I did it and it came out and I saw it the year after. And I’ve never seen it again. So, I played Sabé and she didn’t die? OK!”

Knightley told Total Film magazine in March that she didn’t remember appearing in “Star Wars.”

  • “I mean, I was 12. I literally don’t remember. ... I remember the headdress being so heavy, it gave me a headache. I really remember the headache from one of the headdresses. And I remember being in the background for such a long time that I’d actually fallen asleep. I was just sitting in a chair, and I was in the background, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I really remember that. But apart from that, I don’t remember anything else about it. “
