“Mulan” hit Disney Plus over the weekend, becoming available to subscribers who paid $30 through the Premier Access program. So did a subscription fee and a premier access fee lead to subscribers?
- In short answer, yes. Sensor Tower, an app download research firm, told Yahoo Finance that Disney saw a 68% spike in downloads from Sept. 4 to Sept. 6 compared to one week prior.
- Spending in the app jumped 193% due to the $30 “Mulan” fee.
- The fee is not a one-time rental cost.
This is close to ‘Hamilton’ numbers:
Disney Plus app downloads jumped between 64% and 72% when “Hamilton”
hit the service from July 3 to July 5. as I wrote for Deseret.com. “Hamilton” likely had a higher number because the film was free to watch once you downloaded the app.
The app has no free-trial:

There’s no free trial available for Disney Plus right now, which might be limiting the app from seeing even more downloads right now, which I wrote about for Deseret.com. The app launched with a free seven-day trial, though.
- Business Insider said: “It’s possible that Disney could decide to bring the free trial back at a later date.”
