“WandaVision” — the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project — will “wink” at “Full House,” star Elizabeth Olsen recently announced.
- Olsen is the sister of twins Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, who starred on the show, which included Lori Loughlin.
Olsen told “Access Hollywood” in a recent interview that “WandaVision” will nod to “Family Ties,” too.
- “We have a wink (to ‘Full House’), but it’s mostly a ‘Family Ties’ reference that episode,” she said. “That was most of their inspiration for that specific episode, but we do wink a bit. You can’t not (wink) — it was a very big show!”
Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige said over the weekend that “WandaVision” drew inspiration from “Full House,” according to Variety. And it made sense to link the two shows together in some ways because of the Olsen family.
“(Family sitcoms) meant a lot to us, dated and silly as they may seem, there’s a comfort factor there. That was the primary factor behind the comic inspiration versus what led us to putting putting these ideas together,” Feige said. “There is a wonderful thing that happened with Matt’s background (as a child actor) as he’s talked about, which is so amazing. Lizzie’s background with her sisters (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), which didn’t even occur to me until I think we were standing in the writers room with pictures of ‘Full House’ on the wall and I went ‘Oh, right.’”
