“Stranger Things” star Gaten Matarazzo recently opened up about the show’s production timeline.
The 18-year-old actor, who plays Dustin Henderson in the hit Netflix series, told People magazine that filming has been “a slower process than usual” during the pandemic.
“Which is really saying something because we take our sweet time making the show anyway,” the actor said. “So it’s not as steady paced or as consistent as I think any of us would like it to be, but we do our best and we’re playing it by ear.
“I think the most important thing is that when we’re working, we’re all staying safe,” he added.
“Stranger Things” resumed filming last fall, and Season 4 is expected to come out this year, the Deseret News previously reported.
On Jan. 10, a post from the Twitter account @NetflixUpdates indicated that the official release date would be Aug. 21. But the show’s executive producer, Shawn Levy, shut those rumors down, posting “not true, sorry,” on Twitter, according to Epicstream.com.
Out of all the “Stranger Things” seasons, production for the fourth season has taken the longest, according to Netflixlife.com.

Last month, “Stranger Things” star David Harbour — who plays Hawkins’ Chief of Police Jim Hopper — said Season 4 digs deeper into his backstory.
“This season is my favorite because he really is going to show you some new colors and what he’s really made up of,” Harbour told People magazine in December.
“You really do get to see a lot of his backstory of who he was as a warrior in a sense and sort of the mistakes he made in the past come back to visit him,” he continued. “And he just sort of unfolds.”
So far, “Stranger Things” has released the titles to the first three episodes of Season 4, the Deseret News reported. Season 4 will expand beyond Hawkins, as the Season 3 ending shows the Byers family and Eleven — who at least temporarily has lost her telekinetic powers — moving away after Hopper’s supposed death, according to the Deseret News.
The new season will also feature several new cast members, including “Nightmare on Elm Street” star Robert Englund.
“Stranger Things” will also extend beyond Season 4. In August, Ross Duffer told the Hollywood Reporter: “Season 4 won’t be the end. We know what the end is, and we know when it is.”
