NBC decided to ring in the new year with a little treat for fans of “The Office.” On New Year’s morning, the company released a never-before-seen cold open displaying one of Jim and Pam’s most creative pranks on their frenemy Dwight Schrute.
The unaired five-minute scene was originally intended to be the cold open for the series finale in 2013, but it was cut for time, Deadline reports.
Jim and Pam’s elaborate prank was designed to convince Dwight that he’s living in “The Matrix” and required the help of a trained cat, some hired actors and a few fellow coworkers.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the newly-released scene is dedicated to the late Hugh Dane, who played the security guard Hank in the popular series and passed away in 2018. Dane plays a prominent role in the scene as his character plays a central figure in Jim and Pam’s prank.
According to Deadline, “The Office” is now streaming on Peacock. The first two seasons are available for free while Seasons 3-9 are available exclusively for Peacock premium subscribers.
