Lucasfilm released a new trailer for “The High Republic” — a new “Star Wars” series told through comics and novels that will debut this year.
The trailer, which you can watch below, teases the upcoming series, which focuses on the peak of the Jedi Order before their eventual downfall.
The series surrounds a major incident that happens at the far reaches of space. Multiple villains exist — including the Nihil, who are essentially space pirates or Vikings — and a separate group of creatures.
Quick thoughts on the series so far:
I’ve started reading some of the books in the series, and it’s a collection that’s definitely set in the “Star Wars” universe. “Light of the Jedi” is a good starting point that throws you right in the action. “A Test of Courage,” though a young adult novel, gives a good understanding of the culture in the universe at that point in time.
The series doesn’t include any notable characters from the lore — other than Master Yoda, who makes some appearances and is referenced throughout. But it doesn’t have any deep connection to the Skywalker Saga yet. I’ll definitely update more once I’ve finished reading them.
So far, I can say the series is super intriguing for “Star Wars” fans out there. It leans into an older story and tries to take the franchise in another direction.
