Disneyland has a hidden secret about an old abandoned ride you probably didn’t know about.

What’s going on?

Snopes.com recently looked into the easter egg of the Skyway steps, finding that they are, in fact, remnants of the old Disneyland Skyway.

The old ride used to bring guests over the entire park, giving them a view of the theme park when it first opened in 1956.

  • People would enter the ride in Fantasyland at a chalet.
  • The ride would take guests through the Matterhorn.
  • The ride would end in Tomorrowland.
  • The ride closed in 1994.
  • In 2016, Disneyland crews removed the chalet building in order to build the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction.

However, people can still find the steps to the chalet hidden under moss behind a vendor tent, which is a slight nod to the old ride.

Yesterland — a website dedicated to old rides, experiences and locations at Disneyland — has an entire piece about the Skyway. One look at the photos shows the chalet in an area that looks quite similar to Galaxy’s Edge.

  • Yesterland describes the ride: “The Skyway is simultaneously a mild sightseeing ride and a bit of a thrill ride. Some guests find it scary to be dangling from a slender cable high in the sky. The bucket sways back and forth whenever the cable goes over a support tower, causing occasional gasps from guests.”
