At least Eminem’s mom’s spaghetti was served on plates and not on his sweater.

On Wednesday, Eminem surprised patrons at the official opening of his Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant in downtown Detroit by handing out pasta, according to CNN.

  • Eminem was not expected to show up. But he drove up in a car and started to hand out the spaghetti.

The restaurant’s name is a reference to lyrics in Eminem’s 2002 hit song “Lose Yourself.” In the song, Eminem raps, “His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy. There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.”

In the past, Mom’s Spaghetti food showed up at performances and festivals. Then, during the pandemic, Mom’s Spaghetti helped serve food to hospital workers and those working to vaccinate people, according to a news release.

  • Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s manager, said in a statement that the pop-up versions of the restaurant were “really a test for us to determine whether there was enthusiasm for a regularly occurring Mom’s Spaghetti spot that would be open all year long.”
