IG-11 — the star droid of “The Mandalorian” Season 1 — made his return (kind of) in a new “Star Wars” animated short.
What’s going on?
“Star Wars Kids” and Hasbro have teamed up for a new “Star Wars Mission Fleet” animated short which shows The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda tangled up with stormtroopers.
- “With the help of the Child and a surprise ally, the Mandalorian learns that even a proud warrior needs backup sometimes,” the YouTube description reads.
- IG-11 makes his return in the film to save the two heroes from the stormtroopers.
- It seems IG-11 survives the fight as well.
Some extra notes
Per Gizmodo, the Hasbro short shouldn’t be considered canon, which means that IG-11 isn’t back from the dead and still remains a broken mess after “The Mandalorian” Season 1 finale.
- IG-11 sacrificed his life through self-destruction. But his death killed a batch of stormtroopers and stopped the Empire from capturing Grogu (Baby Yoda).

This isn’t IG-11’s first appearance since his death in “The Mandalorian” Season. Back in November, I wrote about how “The Mandalorian” Season 2’s fourth episode had an easter egg of a statue of IG-11.
