Zynga and Lucasfilm Games announced a new video game called Star Wars: Hunters on Wednesday, which will be available on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices later this year.

What’s going on?

Lucasfilm shared a first look at the game at the Nintendo Direct event Wednesday, where Nintendo showed off new games and products coming to the Nintendo Switch, per The Verge.

Star Wars: Hunters will be “a competitive arena combat game” that “will bring players together to engage in thrilling, team-based, multiplayer battles featuring a diverse array of distinctive new ‘Star Wars’ characters,” according to StarWars.com.

  • The game takes place after the fall of the Galactic Empire.
  • Gamers can compete as bounty hunters, Rebellion heroes, stormtroopers and more.

In January, Lucasfilm reorganized all of its “Star Wars” video games under the newly announced Lucasfilm Games banner, which was a significant change from how video games were organized before, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

  • The move hinted that Lucasfilm might be releasing new games under its banner.

Lucasfilm Games “is now the official identity for all gaming titles from Lucasfilm, a name that encompasses the company’s rich catalog of video games and its eye toward the future,” according to StarWars.com.

More “Star Wars” video games are on the way. Star Wars insider Bespin Bulletin recently told “B.O.B. The Podcast” that the famous early-2000s “Star Wars” game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic would be getting a reboot for mobile devices.
