Monica Rambeau had a rather important superhero moment during the seventh episode of “WandaVision,” and it almost didn’t happen.

What happened:

Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) returns to WestView by passing through the barrier. Her cells are absolutely fried and she seems to adopt new superpowers (more on that later). She appears to be stronger than before with new visualization capabilities, too.

  • Eventually, Monica confronts Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). In a previous episode, Wanda used her magic to send Monica flying out of the barrier. This time, it ends differently as Monica lands on her two feet, showing her super-strength.

Parris told Marvel.com that the scene almost didn’t happen that way.

  • “Originally, I was supposed to get thrown to the ground,” Parris told Marvel.com. “And then we kind of came up with the idea of, well, what if Monica is able to now kind of harness the powers a little bit. And so we landed on that landing. That was the first moment where I really got to feel like, ‘Ooh, a superhero.’”

Rambeau has a big history in Marvel Comics. In fact, she was originally Captain Marvel before Carol Danvers took on the name (Brie Larson plays Danvers in the “Captain Marvel” movies).

She had multiple roles, playing superheroes named Photon, Pulsar and Spectrum, as I wrote about for the Deseret News. Monica switched to Pulsar after another character took the Photon name, according to io9. So that’s what she’s been called since then.

What’s next?

Rambeau ended the episode with a confrontation with Pietro, which might be a sign that her powers will be used in the next episode, which airs Friday morning.
