“WandaVision” creator Jac Schaeffer and director Matt Shakman revealed why Doctor Strange didn’t appear in the recent Disney+ show.
What’s going on?
Schaeffer and Shakman recently told Yahoo! Entertainment they considered bringing in Doctor Strange because of the magical connections — and since “WandaVision” will connect with “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” But they ultimately chose not to do so.
- “We definitely thought about that idea, because he is a very important person in this world in terms of magic,” Shakman said.
A Doctor Strange cameo “wasn’t necessary to the story we were telling,” he said.
- Schaffer added: “We knew that our show would feed into ‘Multiverse of Madness’, but that’s just not where we landed.”
More reasons
In a recent interview with Deadline, Schaeffer said there was a chance Doctor Strange could show up in “WandaVision” — but things didn’t happen behind the scenes to make it work.
- “I heart Doctor Strange just like anybody,” she told Deadline. “Yeah, it’s one of those things, that’s how the chips fell, that’s how the cookie crumbled, is what I will say, but I look forward to seeing him on screen with Wanda in ‘Doctor Strange 2.’”
Context
Reports have long suggested that “WandaVision” would connect to the upcoming film “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” In fact, the upcoming Disney+ show “Loki” will reportedly do the same, too.
