“Stranger Things” fans are eagerly awaiting a Season 4 release date, but in the meantime, the creators who brought the Upside Down to life have signed on for a new project with Netflix.
What’s going on
- “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer will be collaborating with Steven Spielberg, executive producing a series based on Stephen King and Peter Straub’s novel “The Talisman,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
- Curtis Gwinn — who was a writer and executive producer for “Stranger Things” — will be the showrunner for “The Talisman,” which tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who sets out on a quest to find a powerful relic that will save his dying mother’s life, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What about ‘Stranger Things’?
- “Stranger Things” Season 4 is expected to drop this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
- IMDb still has a 2021 release listed for the nine episodes of the upcoming season.
- Last month, actor Finn Wolfhard — who plays “Stranger Things” character Mike Wheeler — said Season 4 is “the darkest season there’s ever been,” the Deseret News reported. Actor Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, has also said it’s the “scariest” season.
- Season 4 will extend beyond the town of Hawkins, since the previous season ended with the Byers family and Eleven moving away.
- The new season will also introduce fans to several new characters, including “A Nightmare on Elm Street” star Robert Englund and “Game of Thrones” star Tom Wlaschiha, according to the Deseret News.
- The fourth season is also expected to go deeper into the character of Jim Hopper, Hawkins’ chief of police who is played by actor David Harbour.
- Originally, when the Duffer brothers envisioned “Stranger Things” as a single season, they were considering big-name actors like Ewan McGregor or Sam Rockwell to take on the role of Hopper, according to Mental Floss.
- Last year, the Duffer brothers told The Hollywood Reporter that Season 4 won’t be the last of “Stranger Things.”
