John Stamos finds himself sitting in the coach’s chair in “Big Shot,” a new original series that hits Disney+ next month.

What ‘Big Shot’ about

The “Full House” actor stars as Marvyn Korn in the new series, a temperamental NCAA-caliber basketball coach who loses his job and is banished to the lower echelon of prep sports. During a winter press tour, Disney+ described the show as follows (via IndieWire):

“After getting ousted from the NCAA, a hothead men’s basketball coach must take a job at an all-girls high school. He soon learns that teenage girls are more than just X’s and O’s; they require empathy and vulnerability — foreign concepts for the stoic coach Korn (John Stamos). By learning how to connect with his players, Marvyn starts to grow into the person he’s always hoped to be. The girls learn to take themselves more seriously, finding their footing both on and off the court.”

In an article for Collider, Austin Slenk wrote that the series is sure to be “emotional and uplifting ... with plenty of ups, downs and excitement along the way.”

Who’s in it

Deadline reports that the series was created by David E. Kelley and Dean Lorey, whose resumes boast small screen hits like “Doogie Howser,” “Big Little Lies,” “Boston Legal” and “Arrested Development.”

The site adds that in addition to Stamos, the series stars Yvette Nicole Brown, Tish Custodio, Jessalyn Gilsig, Monique A. Green, Sophia Mitri Schloss and Tiana Le, among others. Bill D’Elia directed the series pilot and serves as an executive producer alongside Brad Garrett (the three-time Emmy-winning actor from “Everybody Loves Raymond”) who originally pitched the idea for the series to Kelley.

How to watch
