Meghan Markle won’t attend the funeral of her grandfather-in-law, Prince Philip, even though Prince Harry, her husband, will make the trip, BuzzFeed News reports.

Why isn’t Meghan Markle going to the funeral?

Meghan Markle, who is currently pregnant, didn’t receive the green light from her doctors to travel during her pregnancy, which means she will remain stateside, according to BuzzFeed News.

Prince Philip funeral details

Prince Philip — the husband of Queen Elizabeth II and Duke of Edinburgh — passed away last Friday at age 99, as I wrote for the Deseret News. He reportedly passed away peacefully.

  • “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

The funeral is set to take place Saturday. It will be held at the St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, England, per Buckingham Palace.

According BBC News, the funeral will have 30 family members total and will follow the COVID-19 guidelines set out by the government.
