Since Alex Trebek’s death, “Jeopardy!” has had five guest hosts: Ken Jennings, Mike Richards, Katie Couric, Dr. Oz and Aaron Rodgers.
And after Rodgers wraps up his two-week stint as host on April 16, “Jeopardy!” has at least five more guest hosts to go.
But there’s still at least one more person who wants a shot at hosting: LeVar Burton.
On Monday, the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” actor and star of “Reading Rainbow” shared a fan petition to make him the next host of “Jeopardy!”
“Leaving this here in the event the powers that be are listening,” he wrote on Twitter.
The petition has been circulating for a few months now. By the start of March, it garnered 115,000 signatures, the Deseret News reported.
As of April 6, the number of signatures has climbed to more than 142,000.
Burton has been open about his desire to host for a while. In September 2020 — just a couple of months before Trebek’s death — the actor tweeted about his interest in hosting the beloved quiz show, the Deseret News reported.
“Not gonna lie, I feel like I’ve been preparing my whole life to occupy the Jeopardy host podium when Alex retires,” Burton wrote at the time.
But to date, “Jeopardy!” has not announced that Burton will be hosting at any point.
After Rodgers, the guest host schedule goes as follows, according to the “Jeopardy!” website:
- April 19-30 — Anderson Cooper
- May 3-14 — Bill Whitaker
- May 31-June 11 — Mayim Bialik
