Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA legend and sports broadcaster, crossed paths with a random stranger in a Zales jewelry store in Atlanta on Tuesday and felt compelled to make the stranger’s day by paying off an engagement ring he had on layaway, Today reports.

CBS News adds that O’Neal’s act of kindness was caught on camera and the video went viral shortly after it was posted online. In the 15-second clip, Shaq slyly takes out his credit card and hands it over to the store clerk as the stranger was just about to make a payment. The video has garnered more than one million views in less than three days; you can watch it here:

The following day, O’Neal discussed the act of kindness during a segment of “NBA on TNT.”

“I’m into making people happy,” the Hall of Famer said. “Whenever I leave the house I just try to do a good deed.”

He continued, “I didn’t mean for that (video clip) to get out because I don’t do it for that ... I’m just trying to make people smile, that’s all.”

Paying for the ring was nothing out of the ordinary for the four-time NBA champion. During the “NBA on TNT” segment, he shared a similar anecdote, Today.com reports. He said, “The other day, me and my mom went furniture shopping, and this lady, she had an autistic daughter. She was also looking to pay for some furniture. I just took care of her. ... This is something I do every day.”
