Disney revealed its first footage of a “real” retractable lightsaber on Tuesday to celebrate Star Wars Day.
So now, for a price, you too can become a Jedi Knight.
The new toy includes a retractable blade that extends out from the lightsaber hilt, giving the perception of a real lightsaber. The blade also has noises and sounds that mimic the lightsabers from the films, too.
These lightsabers are similar to the ones you can buy at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the “Star Wars” experience at Walt Disney World. Only this time they have a blade that can retract and extend from the hilt. The original lightsaber costs about $200, according to The Verge.
Disney said the new lightsabers are still in development but will likely be available at the Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience, which is set to launch in 2022, as I’ve written about for the Deseret News.
Indeed, the Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience will have a lightsaber training experience, which will give guests a chance to interact with “Star Wars” characters.
- “There are characters on the ship, and many you will be meeting for the first time. It’s a dangerous time in the galaxy and you should be wary about who you make allegiances with because your choices matter. The choices will affect how your ‘Star Wars’ story unfolds,” said Ann Morrow Johnson, a creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, according to The Associated Press.
