Disneyland decided to open up a secret entrance to the Haunted Mansion ride as it reopened during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to SF Gate, guests were offered a chance to use a backstage entranceway in order to keep people socially distanced from each other.

  • “The entrance is located at the end of the wall of interments, the door easily visible but almost always closed as guests normally queue in the outdoor area,” according to SF Gate.

Disneyland attendees shared photos of the entrance on social media.

  • “If you are given the option to take the stair for Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, take it! It’s an unique experience. Takes you straight to the ride,” one fan wrote.

According to SF Gate, the second entrance allows Disney to keep crowds small and reduce lines during the pandemic.

Disneyland Park’Haunted Mansion has received several upgrades since the California theme park closed down during the pandemic, which I wrote about for the Deseret News. For example, the outdoor area was changed to “adorn the site for dearly departed pets, representing their stories from beyond the grave,” according to the Disney Parks blog.

Inside sections of the ride were changed, too. Guests “will notice a few dastardly design embellishments along the portrait hallway, including the return of an old, perhaps familiar face,” according to Disney Parks.
