NBA 2K apologized late Wednesday night after it tweeted an image that drew comparisons to Nazi symbols.

What happened with MyTeam and the Season 8 leak?

On Wednesday, the NBA 2K21 MyTeam mode’s Twitter account shared an image with six symbols on it. Each of the images hinted at a different city or location in the NBA.

  • For example, one of the symbols had a four-leafed clover (a hint at the Boston Celtics) and another showed a cracked Liberty Bell (a hint at the Philadelphia 76ers).

One of the symbols, though, drew immediate comparisons to a Nazi symbol. The image showed a bunch of trees ahead of a circle with a basketball in the middle. There were some jagged lines within the circle. Social media immediately compared the image to the “black sun” Nazi symbol.

Did MyTeam apologize over the symbol?

NBA 2K21 MyTeam mode deleted the tweet and issued an apology, saying it planned to update its content for the upcoming season.

  • “Earlier this evening, we pulled a tweet related to upcoming MyTEAM Season 8 content due to inappropriate imagery. We apologize to our community for the oversight and for any offense we’ve caused. Corrections are being made and we look forward to showing you more content soon,” according to the NBA MyTeam mode.

What’s next?

The NBA 2K21 MyTeam mode often releases details for Season 8 on the day before it begins. Season 8 is slated to start on Friday, June 4. So we’ll see what new details come out in the next few hours after the apology.
