Epic Games recently released a new feature to Fortnite called Fortnite: Impostors, a new model that is basically its version of Among Us, a murder mystery whodunnit game that’s captivated mobile audiences for more than a year now.
And the comparisons have already begun.
What is Among Us?
Among Us puts up to 10 different players against each other to find out who is killing others in the group. Competitors work to finish tasks on a large map. Characters called Impostors do whatever they can do to stop the competitors from completing their tasks, including killing those characters.
What is Fortnite: Impostors?
Fortnite: Imposters is pretty simple. It puts 10 different players against each other to find out who is killing others in the group. Competitors work to finish tasks in a large map while the Impostors do whatever they can do to stop the competitors from completing their tasks, including killing those characters.
(Yes, they’re literally the same thing)
Fortnite: Impostors vs. Among Us
Epic Games released Fortnite: Impostors without any collaboration with Among Us, even though Fortnite has collaborated with major products before.
- The developers of Among Us — which is available for free on the Epic Games store — are a little surprised they didn’t get the call from Epic Games, according to The Verge.
In fact, the developers said they were upset that Epic Games “copied their game so blatantly, with social deduction gameplay and a very similar map,” per The Verge.
- “It would’ve been really, really cool to collab,” Victoria Tran, Innersloth community director, said on Twitter. “Like game mechanics, fine, those shouldn’t be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?”
Fortnite vs. Among Us map details
Gary Porter, a developer for Among Us, shared a picture of the Fortnite: Impostors map and the Among Us map, showing how similar they are to each other. Fortnite defenders pointed out that the map has some minor modifications that make it slightly different, though.
Some people seem like can't see the similarity, so here it is. It's not "obvious", the room might have different points but you can't look at this and think it's totally different. pic.twitter.com/3IWbpmUf60
