NBA 2K22 has revealed the newest details for its MyTeam mode, one of the game’s most popular modes that allow players to build fantasy rosters.

In MyTeam, gamers can build a full lineup of past and present NBA stars using player cards, which can be sold and bought on an auction house, and exchanged for top tier cards, too.

NBA 2K22 has decided to build upon the mode with new features, which we will break down below. The details — which you can read from the NBA 2K22 blog — were sent to the Deseret News ahead of time. All of the information below is from an NBA 2K22 blog report that was emailed to Deseret News ahead of its online publication.

MyTeam reveals first Season 1 details

MyTeam will kick off the season by giving out a free Kobe Bryant card for your starter lineup.

  • You can earn Pink Diamond Devin Booker for winning the Limited mode.
  • You can earn Pink Diamond Wilt Chamberlain for the Unlimited Mode.

MyTeam reveals its starter players

MyTeam will let you choose from five starters, including Trae Young, Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell, Zion Williamson and Nikola Jokic.

You can earn more than one of these players though by completing challenges for your original starter and then earning an “option” pack, which lets you add a new starter.

NBA 2K22 reveals first MyTeam set

MyTeam has killed all bronze and silver-level cards. Each card will start with the gold tier.

NBA 2K22 will release a base set of cards when the game starts, which will include cards for stars like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.

MyTeam changes the Ascension board

Also, MyTeam will allow you to save your progression on the Ascension board — where you can find a number of prizes by picking boxes on a single board — from your last round. So unlike last year, you restart where you left off, making it easier for you to find the top-level players.

MyTeam Draft mode, explained

MyTeam will add a new Draft feature into the game, which allows you to draft players to compete with online. Most sports video games have a version of this mode. Here’s how it works.

  • You will be given seven packs to choose 13 players and a coach.
  • You can pick two players from each position pack.

Gamers will be given a “featured pack” where you will find three newer MyTeam cards that will be added to your draft mode lineup.

  • These featured players will only show up when you’re new.

For playing the draft mode, you will receive a free pack and a pick on the Draft Mode Ascension Board, where you can find more prizes and rewards. The top prize for the first season of MyTeam will be a Pink Diamond Glenn Robinson card.

  • Once you win 10 games or lose three games, your draft will restart and you will have a chance to win prizes all over again.

Triple Threat Online adds the 100 feature

Triple Threat Online is a game mode where you compete in 3-on-3 competitions against other players online.

NBA 2K22 has added a new point system called the 100. For this feature, players will be given 100 points. After every game, you will lose points based on how many points your team scores on you.

  • Once you hit zero, your score will reset to 100 and you can go after prizes again.
  • Every player will get to the second tier of prizes in the Triple Threat Online mode now, though.

NBA 2K22 adds pick-up and skill challenges

The new MyTeam mode will also have pick-up and skill challenges added to the game.

The pick-up challenges will allow you to compete against a computer-generated lineup based on your lineup. So, if you have a heavily skilled lineup, you will face a tough computer lineup. If your team is trash, the computer lineup will be trash.

The new skills challenges will have weekly challenges and challenges based off real-life NBA moments. This year, the challenges will end after you complete the challenge. So if your challenge is to hit five 3-pointers with Steph Curry, the challenge will end when you do it.

  • The game will add new rematches into the challenges, so you can quickly restart the challenge if you want.

The game will keep the signature challenge feature, which are new player-based games that are added every season.

Spotlight challenges will return as well. There will be 20 spotlight challenges to kick off the game to win the four NBA 2K22 cover athletes. The challenges will be a mix of 3 vs. 3 and 5v. s. 5 games.

Event cards have been added to the game

MyTeam has added new event cards that will be released for specific events in the seasons and moments based on the real-life NBA season.

Holo Player cards have been added

MyTeam has added new Holo Players to the game. Every card can become a “holo” version when it is opened. These cards will be rare. Though they won’t be better versions, they will have challenges associated with them and they will be useable for certain challenges.

MyTeam card grading service

Just like real life, MyTeam will add a new card grading system. The NBA 2K experts will literally grade your cards. When they’re graded, you can gain extra in-game coins for playing with the card

MyTeam changes its shoes feature

MyTeam will now allow you edit and customize your shoe cards, giving them different colorways and attributes.
