Today, Nintendo revealed the new features of the long awaited Nintendo Switch 2 handheld gaming system. There are various new features and design changes that were revealed.
Here is everything you need to know about what this new system brings and how fans are feeling about this announcement.
What is new about the Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo unveiled all the new features of the Nintendo Switch 2 in a video.
Here is what the video shows and confirms.
It’s bigger
The screen, as well as its controllers (or Joy-Con), will be bigger.
While this will possibly make the system bulkier, the video shows that they have attempted to slim down the exterior while also adding a kickstand.
Two USB-C ports
The Nintendo Switch 2 will have two USB-C ports — one on the top and one on the bottom.
According to IGN, having two USB-C ports allows for a better “quality-of-life,” because it allows users to use more than one accessory without having to get adaptors as well.
Joy-Con snap onto the console
Leaving behind the original design from the Nintendo Switch of sliding the Joy-Con on, the Nintendo Switch 2 allows for them to connect to the screen magnetically and automatically.
This new design makes it more user friendly and eliminates the need to constantly add an adapter when playing Mario Kart with a single Joy-Con.
Joy-Con can be used as a mouse
IGN reported that leaks had indicated new sensors on the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con that allow them to be a mouse.
The video confirmed this but it is still unsure as to what degree they can be used.
Mysterious button on the right Joy-Con
While it’s not completely clear on the video, leaks mentioned the right Joy-Con having a new “C” button — but it is still not known as to what this button is and does, per IGN.
The Nintendo Switch 2 can play both physical and digital Switch games
Comforting news to fans is that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to play both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.
A new Mario Kart game?
The unveiling video also hinted at a possible Mario Kart 9 coming out for the Nintendo Switch 2, but it’s not confirmed.
How are fans reacting to this reveal?
After announcing the new system on X, Nintendo received various different reactions from fans.
Some fans like the new design and feel that the all black look is “sleek.”
However, some fans have said that they aren’t impressed by the updates made. One comment said that that this new design “looks too much the same.”
Another X user wrote, “this is giving ‘Switch Pro’ not ‘Switch 2′."
But the thing fans are most excited about has nothing to do with the new design but with the hint at a new Mario Kart game.
