The Oscar nominations have officially been announced.
According to Time, the Academy extended the voting period due to the Los Angeles fires. This resulted in a delayed nomination announcement.
“Emilia Peréz” takes the lead with 13 nominations, followed by “The Brutalist” and “Wicked,” which both received 10 nominations.
While some of Hollywood’s biggest stars and fan-favorite films were snubbed, the 2025 Oscar nods have found relief in making the anticipated list. Here’s what you need to know to tune in and witness cinematic history.
Who, what and where
The Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation in Hollywood.
The night kicks off with the star-studded red carpet at 6:30 p.m. EST, followed by the main event at 7 p.m. EST — a full hour earlier than usual to accommodate early bedtimes, according to Time.
Conan O’Brien will make his Academy Awards debut as host for his first-ever Oscar gig. Although he does not have experience hosting the Oscars, O’Brien has charmed audiences at the Emmys and White House Correspondents dinners, said Time.
This year’s major nominees include “Emilia Peréz,”“Conclave,”“The Brutalist” and “Wicked,” while “Challengers” and “Sing Sing” were notably snubbed.
“Conan has all the qualities of a great Oscars host — he is incredibly witty, charismatic and funny and has proven himself to be a master of live event television,” said Oscars executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan in a November press statement. “We are so looking forward to working with him to deliver a fresh, exciting and celebratory show for Hollywood’s biggest night.”
This year, the Oscars will be turning away from live performances of nominated original song performances.
Variety said, “Instead, the show will spotlight the songwriters through personal reflections and behind-the-scenes insights from the creative teams behind the music.”
And the nominees are ... drum roll, please
Here are the 97th Oscar nominations, according to the Oscars website.
