Former ‘Superman’ actor Dean Cain revealed plans on Wednesday to join the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, also known as ICE.
Cain, an actor who played Superman on the 1990s series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” shared a social media clip on Tuesday urging Americans to join ICE — highlighting incentives such as high-dollar bonus the Trump administration is offering to those who sign up.
“For those who don’t know, I am a sworn law enforcement officer, as well as being a filmmaker, and I felt it was important to join with our first responders to help secure the safety of all Americans, not just talk about it,” Cain said in the video.
“If you want to help save America, ICE is arresting the worst of the worst and removing them from America’s streets. I like that. I voted for that,” he continued. “They need your help. We need your help, to protect our homeland and our families.”
Cain’s comments come as the Trump administration pushes to expand hiring for more ICE agents, attracting applicants with incentives such as a $50,000 hiring bonus, student loan forgiveness, generous overtime and retirement benefits, per The Associated Press.
Less than one week after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security launched its recruitment campaign, more than 80,000 Americans have filed applications to join the organization, per Homeland Security.
On Wednesday, in an interview with Fox News, Cain confirmed his plans to join the ranks of ICE.
“I’ve spoken with some officials over at ICE and I will be sworn in as an ICE agent ASAP,” Cain told Fox News host Jesse Watters.
“I put out a recruitment video yesterday — I’m actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer — I wasn’t part of ICE, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy,” Cain explained.
“People have to step up. I’m stepping up. Hopefully a whole bunch of other former officers, former ICE agents will step up, and we’ll meet those recruitment goals immediately and we’ll help protect this country.”
The actor told Watters he does not know yet what role he will play in ICE, but does not anticipate being eligible for the sign-on bonus or other incentives. Cain said he is willing to be involved in the organization in any way he is asked.
“This country was built on patriots stepping up, whether it was popular or not, and doing the right thing. I truly believe this is the right thing,” Cain said when asked what inspired him to get involved with ICE.
“This is what people voted for. It’s what I voted for. ... I’ll do my part and help make sure it happens.”
