Amazon Prime Video is expanding its biblical cinematic universe.

The mega streamer officially ordered the biblical drama “Joseph of Egypt” to series, which will be co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and “The Chosen” creator Dallas Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios.

Production on the eight-episode limited series has started in New Mexico. It does not have an official release date but will debut exclusively on Prime Video.

The official logline for the series reads, “In this iconic Old Testament story, betrayed by jealous brothers, Joseph defies all expectations and rises to incredible power in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test.”

Adam Hashmi (“Bridgerton,” “Criminal Record”) is cast as the series’ titular character. Starring alongside Hashmi are Alexander Siddig (“Foundation,” “Shantaram”) as Jacob, Babak Tafti (“Succession,” “Billions”) as Simeon, Daniel Peera (“The Cleaning Lady,” “NCIS”) as Reuben and Iris Bahr (“Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Svetlana”) as Leah.

Craig Wright will serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner, with Jenkins as an executive producer under his 5&2 Studios banner. Brad Pelo, Mark Sourian, Ryan Swanson and Tyler Thompson will also serve as executive producers.

The partnership also gives Amazon MGM Studios exclusive streaming rights to “The Chosen” as well as future projects from 5&2, such as “The Chosen with Bear Grylls” and “The Chosen Adventures.”

Prime Video is also the exclusive streaming platform for the biblical drama “House of David,” from Wonder Project.

Jenkins first announced plans to expand his biblical television projects with a Joseph series, as well as a multiseason story on Moses, during ChosenCon in 2024. He likened his plans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but with a biblical spin, as reported by the Deseret News.

“We do hope that someday we’ll be able to make some announcements about expanding this Chosen universe and Bible universe and telling more stories beyond just the Gospels,” Jenkins told the Deseret News during the convention. “But there’s still plenty to do right now.”
