‘AGT’ 2025 semifinals: Who is competing?

During quarterfinal episode No. 2, the following three acts made the semifinals: Bay Melnick Virgolino, Leo High School Choir and Unreal.

Bay Melnick Virgolino

When he was 5, Bay Melnick Virgolino asked his mom if he could take guitar lessons — a desire that stemmed from a fascination with Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash.

Five years later, the 10-year-old guitar prodigy from New York City is showing off his musical prowess on “AGT.”

Bay’s audition for the show had the judges, audience and his parents dancing along as he shredded a solo during his rendition of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are you Gonna Go My Way.”

The performance, which has more than 3 million views on YouTube, had all of the judges calling the kid a rock star.

“I think Lenny Kravitz would be so proud of you,” Mel B said.

For the quarterfinals, Bay got right in the judges’ faces to shred during “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

The crowd’s response was so enthusiastic it nearly drowned out the judges’ feedback.

While Mel B said Bay’s vocals weren’t as impressive as his guitar skills, her opinion of the performance appeared to be in the minority as all of the other judges praised the young contestant’s act.

“You’re so young, but you came out here with this real, real attitude, confidence, stage presence, great song,” Simon Cowell said. “You absolutely nailed that.”

Leo High School Choir

When 22 singers of the Leo High School Choir took the stage to audition for “AGT,” their music director, LaDonna Hill, was visibly emotional.

“These young men are amazing — they’ve never had music experience," Hill said of the students from the south side of Chicago. “I take whoever desires to sing. I am extremely proud of them.”

The choir quickly won over the judges with their passionate performance of The Score’s “Born For This.”

“It felt like that was your song, and you were singing it from the heart,” Mel B said.

“You guys deserve to be on this stage,” Sofia Vergara added.

Ahead of their quarterfinal performance, the choir said they’d been practicing all summer for the moment. The work that they put in paid off as they wowed the judges and audience with a rendition of Imagine Dragons’ “Believer.”

“You guys just lit up this whole entire place,” Mel B said.

Unreal

A number of dance crews have appeared on “America’s Got Talent” over the years, but Unreal stands out for their ability to create illusions through robotic-like movements and body contortions.

Following their audition — which has 1.5 million views on YouTube — the dance crew from India left such an impression that Cowell said he was “slightly speechless.”

“It was so creative, brilliant, scary, and I can tell how much work you have put into this, because this doesn’t happen overnight,” Cowell said, noting that the dancers have been preparing for “AGT” for five years.

I’ve never seen anything like it,” Vergara added, calling it one of the best routines of the season.

“AGT” judge Howie Mandel took it a step further, giving the dancers a golden buzzer to immediately advance them to the quarterfinals.

“I think you’re going to take this all the way,” Mandel told the dance crew after hitting the buzzer.

The judges had even higher praise during the quarterfinals, when the dancers were synchronized to make it look like they were gears in a machine.

“That is by far the best dance choreography I have ever seen in the history of ‘AGT,’“ Mandel said. ”That was a million-dollar dance right there. You stepped it up.”

When does the next episode of ‘AGT’ air?

Round three of the live quarterfinals airs Tuesday on NBC, with the show revealing the next three acts to advance to the semifinals on Wednesday.

During the first round of the quarterfinals, singer Jourdan Blue, the dance troupe LightWire and the trapeze duo Sirca Marea advanced to the semifinals, the Deseret News previously reported.
