“The Chosen Adventures,” an animated children’s spinoff series to the biblical drama “The Chosen,” will be released on Prime Video next month.
The series, which is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and 5&2 Studios — the studio behind “The Chosen” — will feature 14 11-minutes episodes.
All episodes of “The Chosen Adventures” will premiere exclusively on the streamer on Friday, Oct. 17, in the United States and internationally in the United Kingdom, Latin America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and sub-Saharan Africa.
The family comedy-adventure series “follows 9-year-old Abby and her best friend Joshua as they navigate life in the ancient city of Capernaum,” per the official series logline.
The logline continues, “When the children encounter a wise craftsman and teacher, Jesus of Nazareth, he helps them change the way they see the world, and they help spread his influence far and wide (among the 7 to 12-year-old set). And did we mention that she has a talking sheep?”
Emmy and Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser leads the series as Sheep, with Yvonne Orji as Pigeon, Romy Fay as Abby, Jude Zarzaur as Joshua, Danny Nucci as Abba and Zehra Fazal as Eema.
Several stars from “The Chosen” will reprise their roles on “The Chosen Adventures,” including Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary, Paras Patel as Matthew, Noah James as Andrew, George H. Xanthis as John, Joey Vahedi as Thomas and Yasmine Al-Bustami as Ramah.
Ryan Swanson, a co-writer for “The Chosen,” serves as the series’ writer, showrunner and executive producer. Dallas Jenkins, the creator of “The Chosen,” will executive produce under his 5&2 Studios banner.
Jenkins first announced plans for the animated comedy spinoff show during “The Chosen” Insiders Conference in September 2024.
“There’s room here to tell the story of Jesus through the eyes of children in the whimsical format of animation,” he told Variety at the time, while speaking on the series.
He continued, “We thought there’s something there, seeing Jesus through the eyes of kids. We’re not going to expand on that in the mothership show. But what if we took time with that, in an animated show that was witty and fun and that adults could appreciate.”
“We can’t afford for our second project to come out of the gate and people to go, ‘you know, it’s fine.’ But we really want to make sure that the audience really loves it.”
“The Chosen Adventures” falls under Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios’ wide-ranging deal with Amazon MGM Studios, which was announced in February and gave Prime Video exclusive streaming rights for “The Chosen” and future projects.
Also in the works under the same deal are “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls” and “Joseph of Egypt.”
Can I watch ‘The Chosen Adventures’ for free?
No official announcement has revealed whether “The Chosen Adventures” will be available to stream for free via “The Chosen” app or not.
When announcing the wide-ranging deal between 5&2 Studios and Amazon MGM Studios, Jenkins told fans he would stick to his promise to alway make “The Chosen” available for free through the app, but noted that promise might not extend to new shows.
As part of 5&2 Studios’ deal with Prime, “The Chosen” gets a 90-day exclusive streaming window on the streamer before being made available for free on the app. Other projects from 5&2 Studios, such as “The Chosen Adventures,” might be available exclusively on Prime Video for longer than 90 days, Jenkins said during a February livestream.
Some shows might never be available to stream free on “The Chosen” app, Jenkins said, but noted the “goal is for every show eventually to be free.”
“I can’t promise everything,” Jenkins said, “but our desire to get this content to as many people as possible all over the world is shared by Prime Video, and of course, Come and See.”
