For a few days, it seemed like Ed Sheeran was going to pack his bags and move across the pond to the United States.
But after his comments on a recent podcast went viral, the “Thinking Out Loud” singer has posted on his own social media to set the record straight: He’s not leaving the U.K. behind — at least permanently.
Is Ed Sheeran moving to the U.S.?
On Sept. 7, during an appearance on "The 2 Johnnies Podcast," Sheeran declared that he was “just about to move to America.”
“I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out,” he said, per People. “We’re going and settling there.”
The comments quickly gained traction online, with major media outlets reporting that Sheeran was making a big move.
The four-time Grammy winner has since revealed, though, that he’s not actually leaving behind his U.K. home.
“I’m not moving, I’m going on tour with my family and relocating to the continent I’m touring on, don’t wanna commute from London to San Diego obvz,” he shared in an Instagram story on Sept. 10, per Billboard.
As of Thursday, Sheeran’s website doesn’t list any tour dates in North America outside of a festival appearance in Las Vegas on Sept. 20.
But that could soon change, as the singer-songwriter is about to release a new album — meaning a tour could be on the horizon.
Ed Sheeran releases new album, ‘Play’
On Friday, Sheeran releases his new album, “Play.”
Earlier this year, the singer shared that the album was a “direct response to the darkest period” in his life.
“Coming out of all of that I just wanted to create joy and technicolour, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring,” Sheeran shared in a May 1 Instagram post.
“It’s a real rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish, it encapsulates everything that I love about music, and the fun in it, but also where I am in life as a human, a partner, a father,“ he continued. ”... The older I get the more I just want to enjoy things, and savour the moments that are mad and chaotic.”
To celebrate the release, the “Perfect” singer will perform some of his new music during a Tiny Desk concert that will be streamed live from NPR offices on Friday at 10 a.m. MT.
“The Tiny Desk concerts that regularly publish are meticulously post-produced by our talented audio and video producers,” said Suraya Mohamed, NPR Music’s executive producer, in a news release shared with the Deseret News. “We are excited to share a live, raw version of a Tiny Desk concert with our audience — something we haven’t done since 2019.”
After the livestream, the concert will be available on the official YouTube channels for Sheeran and NPR Music.
