It seems that Kevin James is promoting his upcoming Angel Studios romantic comedy in an unusual way — by playing a TikTok character named “Mr. Matt Taylor,” a soft-spoken art teacher whose videos have been circulating across social media.

While it has not yet been confirmed to be him, Angel Studios has interacted directly with the account, liking several of the posts and commenting on the first Instagram reel, offering insight that the character is part of the studio’s broader rollout for James’ next film.

The Kinnane Brothers, who are directing the film, also follow the account.

The supposed “Mr. Taylor” has built the persona on TikTok and Instagram under the handle @thisismatttaylor, posting short clips with calm voiceovers and classroom-style wisdom that blends sincerity with subtle comedy. The account never mentions James by name, but fans quickly went to the comments, recognizing his voice and mannerisms.

About ‘Solo Mio’

According to a release from Angel Studios, James stars in “Solo Mio,” a romantic comedy set to be released on Feb. 6, 2026. The film follows a man named Matt whose dream wedding in Italy collapses at the last moment. Rather than return home, he continues with what would have been his honeymoon, exploring Italy and unexpectedly finding new direction.

The cast includes Jonathan Roumie, Alyson Hannigan, Kim Coates, Julee Cerda, Julie Ann Emery and Nicole Grimaudo alongside James. The film is co-produced and co-written by James and marks Angel Studios’ first theatrical romantic comedy.

A promotional persona

The “Mr. Matt Taylor” account began posting videos on Oct. 15 and quickly drew questions from viewers who wondered whether it was actually Kevin James in character. The videos feature simple setups — an art-room background, a gentle message, a small lesson — all delivered in a tone that reminds many commenters of James.

By keeping the account separate from his main platforms, James created a slow-burn discovery effect. Fans shared clips, speculated about the identity of “Mr. Taylor” and tagged James, hoping for a response.

Angel Studios’ engagement with the posts indicates that the character could be part of the film’s promotional strategy for the coming months.
