National Cookie Day has been around longer than most people realize. “Sesame Street” first marked it on the calendar in 1976 on Nov. 26, and Cookie Monster even claimed his own National Cookie Day in 1980 through “The Sesame Street Dictionary.”
But the holiday didn’t truly stick until 1987, when Matt Nader of the Blue Chip Cookie Company in San Francisco established Cookie Day as an official celebration on Dec. 4, according to National Calendar Day.
To celebrate in 2025, several chains are offering sweet deals and giveaways.
Dairy Queen
Through Dec. 7, Dairy Queen rewards members can get $3 off any small Blizzard Treat or receive a free mini Frosted Sugar Cookie Blizzard Treat (or another flavor) with the purchase of a Signature Stackburger Combo or a 6-piece Chicken Strip Basket.
