Although the country-pop trio Dek of Hearts didn’t earn an automatic bid in “The Voice” finale, there’s still a shot the singers could make it if they receive enough votes from viewers.
But for now, the three Nashville-based artists are celebrating another victory on “The Voice”: winning a performance slot in the Rose Parade.
Dek of Hearts will perform at Rose Parade
This season of “The Voice” introduced a new feature called the “Mic Drop,” which allowed each coach on the show to nominate one of their artists for the opportunity to perform in the Rose Parade on Jan. 1.
Dek of Hearts — made up of singers Dylan, Emily and Kollin — earned the “Mic Drop” from their coach, One Direction star Niall Horan, after a performance of Lady A’s “What If I Never Get Over You” during the Knockouts.
“The Voice” recently revealed that the trio won the “Mic Drop” — an outcome determined by votes from viewers.
Now, “Voice” fans will find out Monday night if Dek of Hearts is one of two acts joining four other contestants in the Season 28 finale.
Dek of Hearts performances on ‘The Voice’
Considering Dek of Hearts won the fan vote for the Rose Parade, the odds seem good they’ll end up in the finale.
Following their most recent performance in the competition, a rendition of Crosby, Stills and Nash’s “Helplessly Hoping,” Snoop Dogg said he’d love to see the group in the finals.
“Can y’all just do that 30 more times?” country star Reba McEntire said, praising their three-part harmonies. “I think y’all ought to win this whole sucker.”
“I wouldn’t be upset to lose to them,” McEntire later told her fellow “Voice” coaches.
Dek of Hearts’ time on the show started with an impressive performance of Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina, Tails California” that got a chair turn from all four coaches — and recognition from Messina herself.
After praising the singers’ tight harmonies, the coaches were shocked to learn Dek of Hearts has only been together for roughly 14 months.
According to their website, the group formed after graduating from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. They started out in worship music — which evolved into performances at churches, festivals and venues throughout the U.S. — and released a single, “Taillights,” earlier this year.
Considering her strong country roots, McEntire seemed to be the obvious choice for Dek of Hearts on “The Voice”: “I love, with all my heart, three-part harmony,” the country music legend said. “It touches the core of my being.”
But the other three coaches — Horan, Snoop Dogg and Michael Buble — encouraged the group to take a risk. And Dek of Hearts followed through, selecting Horan to be their guide.
“I’ve never had anything like you on any of my teams, but I have won twice, so we should probably do that together as well,” Horan told the trio.
