The final episode was over 2 hours long and at the same time it dropped on Netflix, it was released in select theaters around the U.S. and Canada.

Since Season 1 premiered in 2016, the series’ universe has already expanded into games, books and even a Broadway play.

The final episode titled “The Rightside Up” wrapped up the stories of all the major characters after the group of Hawkins heroes went into the Abyss to defeat the Mind Flayer and kill Vecna.

The show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, have confirmed that this is in fact the end of the series, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be more coming from the “Stranger Things” universe.

What we know about a second ‘Stranger Things’ spinoff

The Duffer brothers are working on a live-action spinoff that they haven’t released any details for yet.

The one thing we do know is that it will tie up the loose end of the rock Henry found that gave him powers and connected him to Dimension X/The Mind Flayer according to Cosmopolitan.

Matt Duffer said that the spinoff will be an “entirely new mythology.”

“This spinoff does connect and will answer some of the lingering questions. It’s not specifically about the Mind Flayer or the Upside Down, but hopefully it provides some answers to that at least those lingering questions related to Henry’s memory,” he added, per Cosmopolitan.

Matt Duffer added that they will start working on the spinoff again in early January.

How did the ‘Stranger Things’ finale do at the box office?

When the series finale episode released on Netflix on Wednesday, it was also shown in theaters in North America. According to Deadline, the showings on Wednesday and Thursday earned between $25 million and $28 million for theaters.

Because of the cast’s contractual terms for residuals, they couldn’t charge tickets to the Netflix screening event. They got around this by reserving seats with concession vouchers. At some theaters the concession vouchers cost $20 per seat and at others the price was as low as $11.

Earlier this week, the Duffer brothers announced that 1.1 million vouchers had been sold for seats to the finale, per Variety.
