“One Battle After Another,” the disruptive comedy about a politically radical father looking for his daughter, claimed three trophies at the Critics Choice Awards Sunday night, including the coveted title of best picture — setting the tone for award season.

The Critics Choice Awards, which traditionally airs after the Golden Globes, provided a subtle glimpse at what films and television shows will be favored ahead of the more prestigious Academy Awards and Golden Globes in the coming weeks.

Supernatural horror film “Sinners” led the night with 17 nods and capturing four wins — a tie with Guillermo del Toro‘s adaptation of “Frankenstein,” which also earned four wins.

Following with three wins was “One Battle After Another.”

“This is really fantastic, fantastic news,” Paul Thomas Anderson, the film’s director, said as he accepted the award for best picture. “This is the best time I’ve ever had making a movie, and I feel like it shows. It’s just a testament to being with people that you love.”

“Adolescence,” the British crime drama series, led the night in television with four trophies, including a best supporting actor win for Owen Cooper, the young actor who is enjoying a winning streak for his performance on the series.

For his performance as a hungry table-tennis player in “Marty Supreme,” Timothée Chalamet claimed his first Critics Choice Award in the competitive best actor category.

Chalamet accepted the award with an uncharacteristically nervous demeanor, starting off by stumbling over his words. “I’m more nervous than I thought I’d be,” he revealed after praising his fellow nominees. He finished his message with a brief tribute to his longtime girlfriend, Kylie Jenner: “Thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn’t do this without you.”

The record-breaking animated Netflix show “KPop Demon Hunters” continued its winning streak, claiming an award for best song for its chart-topping track, “Golden.”

And after a controversy-shrouded fall, Jimmy Kimmel took home the award for best talk show and thanked President Donald Trump for the win.

“I want to thank our president, Donald Jennifer Trump, without whom we’d be going home empty-handed tonight,” Kimmel said while he accepted the win. “So thank you, Mr. President, for all the many ridiculous things you do each and every day.”

The award ceremony also took a moment to pay tribute to director-actor Rob Reiner, who died in December.

“Everyone in this room knows that the nicest guy in Hollywood was Rob Reiner,” the show’s host, comedian Chelsea Handler, said at the end of her monologue. “The minute you met him, he felt like an old friend.”

“It all stemmed from one basic idea: decency,” she added. “I think we can all agree that we definitely need more of that value.”
